Jera seeks to expand long-term LNG exports: expanding global business, absorbing excess supply, and Asian buyers turning to alternative sources

(1) One of the world's largest liquefied natural gas buyers, Jera, is seeking to expand long-term exports of the fuel to grow its global business and absorb surplus supply. (2) Japan's largest power producer mainly imports LNG for domestic consumption; Irtiza Sayyed, CEO of Jera Global Energy Solutions—the division responsible for long-term LNG business—stated the company is seeking to "identify markets where additional sales can be made." (3) Many Asian countries are looking for alternative LNG supplies as ongoing conflict in the Middle East has disrupted shipments of the supercooled fuel through the Strait of Hormuz. (4) The Strait of Hormuz has previously handled one-fifth of the world's LNG shipments. (5) Buyers are aiming to reduce risk by signing contracts with exporters outside the Persian Gulf.
