As a key oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia was shut down, raising concerns about short-term crude oil supply, Japanese refiners increased their purchases of Middle Eastern crude oil. According to informed traders, Eneos Holdings and Idemitsu Kosan recently bought Oman crude that could be shipped as early as October. These traders noted that the timing of these purchases is earlier than usual. Typically, Persian Gulf crude cargoes purchased in September would be shipped in November.
