07:48 AM EDT, 09/16/2026 (MT Newswires) -- European bourses tracked moderately higher midday Wednesday as traders weighed easing oil bills, favored tech shares, and awaited a rate decision from the US central bank, the Federal Reserve. Tech and bank stocks led gains on continental trading floors, while food shares lagged. The pan-continental Stoxx Europe 600 Index was up 0.6% mid-session. The Fed is expected to increase its key interest rate by 25 basis points, following a recent rate hike by the European Central Bank. Front-month North Sea Brent crude-oil futures were down 1.5% at $107.12 a barrel in midday action. Investors also eyed Wall Street futures flashing green, and higher closes overnight on Asian exchanges. In economic news, the seasonally adjusted Eurozone industrial production index slipped 0.1% in July from June, but was stable on year, reported Eurostat. In the broader European Union, industrial output fell 0.3% on month in July, but rose by 0.3% on year. The Stoxx Europe 600 Technology Index was up 0.9% mid-session, and the Stoxx 600 Banks Index gained 0.8%. The Stoxx Europe 600 Oil and Gas Index rose 0.4%, while the Stoxx 600 Europe Food and Beverage Index declined 0.2%. The REITE, a European REIT index, rose 0.5%. On the national market indexes, Germany's DAX was up 0.3%, and the FTSE 100 in London gained 0.6%. The CAC 40 in Paris was up 0.5%, and Spain's IBEX 35 lifted 0.4%. Yields on benchmark 10-year German bonds were lower, near 3.53%. The Euro Stoxx 50 volatility index was up 5.2% at 20.39, indicating modestly above-average volatility for European stock markets in the next 30 days, a negative signal. A reading above 20 indicates choppier markets ahead, while below 20 suggests calmer exchanges.
