08:36 AM EDT, 09/16/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Surge Copper (SURG.V) has commenced the environmental assessment process for the Berg copper project in British Columbia, the mineral resource company said Wednesday. Surge said the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Office and the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada has accepted the initial project description for Berg. The acceptance formally started the early engagement phase of the provincial environmental assessment process and the planning phase of the federal impact assessment process, according to Surge. Surge said it will continue advancing environmental baseline programs and feasibility-level technical work in parallel with the assessment process. "We look forward to working collaboratively with First Nations, local communities, regulators, and other participants as the Project progresses through this next stage," CEO Leif Nilsson said.
