US Total Crude Oil Stocks Fall in Week Ended Sept. 11

10:43 AM EDT, 09/16/2026 (MT Newswires) -- US crude oil stocks, including those in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, fell by 1.0 million barrels in the week ended Sept. 11 following a decrease of 1.6 million barrels in the previous week. Excluding inventories in the SPR, commercial crude oil stocks fell by 600,000 barrels after a 400,000-barrel decline in the previous week, a smaller decline than the 1.5-million-barrel decrease expected in a survey compiled by Bloomberg. Stocks in the SPR decreased by 400,000 barrels in the week after falling by 1.2 million in the previous week. Overall crude oil stocks were down 0.1% from the previous week and were down 13.7% from a year earlier. Crude oil inventories are about 1% above the five-year average for this time of the year. Gasoline stocks rose by 800,000 barrels, compared with the 1.1-million-barrel decrease expected. Gasoline stocks were up 0.4% from the previous week, but down 4.6% from a year earlier. Distillate stocks rose by 1.6 million barrels in the current week, compared with an expected increase of 650,000 barrels. Distillate stocks were up 1.5% from the previous week but were still 13.5% lower than in the same week a year ago. Refineries operated at 96.8% of their capacity, down from 97.8% in the previous week.
