Bitget Replenishes Protection Fund to $300M+, Ahead of Schedule

Victoria, Seychelles, September 30, 2026 — Bitget, the world’s largest Universal Exchange (UEX), has replenished its Protection Fund to more than $300 million, delivering on its commitment to restore the fund within one week following the September 24 security incident.
The replenishment marks a further step in Bitget’s response following the incident, with user balances protected throughout, withdrawal services progressively resuming, and the Protection Fund restored to its minimum $300 million level. The fund remains publicly verifiable onchain, giving users direct visibility into the assets maintained as an additional layer of financial protection.
Established in 2022 with 5,500 BTC and a minimum value of $300 million, the Protection Fund was designed to provide an additional safeguard for users in exceptional circumstances. Following the September 24 incident, Bitget designated the fund to cover the approximately $388 million financial impact, ensuring that user account balances remained accurate and unaffected. On September 28, Bitget committed to bringing the fund back to at least $300 million within one week, a commitment fulfilled two days later.
“The past few days have been difficult for our users, so it was important for us to show that the safeguards we put in place actually work,” said Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget. “The Protection Fund was created for moments like this and absorbed the financial impact of the incident. We said we would bring it back to at least $300 million within a week, and we have done that. Users can verify the fund themselves onchain, just as they have been able to since it was established.”
The replenishment follows Bitget’s phased resumption of withdrawal services and continued investigation into the September 24 incident. Bitget has engaged independent cybersecurity firms Mandiant and SlowMist as part of its forensic investigation, while fund tracing and recovery efforts remain ongoing.
The Protection Fund remains separate from the reserves backing user balances. Bitget’s Proof of Reserves provides visibility into assets maintained against covered user balances, while the Protection Fund serves as an additional financial safeguard. Bitget published its latest Proof of Reserves on September 30, with all 19 assets included in the snapshot maintaining reserve ratios above the 100% benchmark.
Users can independently verify the Protection Fund through the publicly disclosed wallet addresses available on Bitget’s Protection Fund page, here.
