Waymo plans to launch its Robotaxi service in Singapore in 2028, marking the latest in a series of domestic US and international expansion moves by the Alphabet (GOOGL.US) subsidiary.

According to information from Zhihui Finance APP, Waymo plans to launch its Robotaxi service in Singapore in 2028, marking the latest in a series of domestic and international expansion moves by the Alphabet (GOOGL.US) subsidiary.

Waymo stated that it will deploy a fleet of Jaguar I-PACE electric vehicles in this Asian city-state over the coming months. In a statement released Thursday evening US time, the company said that, starting next year, its trained professionals will manually drive these vehicles to map the area and learn about Singapore’s road conditions and monsoon weather patterns.

Waymo already offers paid services in 15 US cities and has been preparing for international rollouts, including in London, Tokyo, and Germany. The company has also registered entities in France, the Netherlands, and Spain, but has yet to announce commercial plans. Recently, it has launched paid passenger services in several markets, including Las Vegas this week, as well as Denver, San Diego, and Tampa, Florida earlier this month.

When services open to the public in Singapore in 2028, Waymo plans to offer its vehicle service through its own consumer app. This differs from its Chinese competitors—such as WeRide and Pony.ai—who have launched limited services in Singapore by partnering with local ride-hailing platforms like Grab Holdings Ltd. and ComfortDelGro Corp Ltd.

It remains unclear whether Waymo will operate on limited routes in Singapore, similar to other Robotaxi providers. In its statement, Waymo said its service will supplement the market’s public transportation network by bridging the “first-mile and last-mile” travel gaps between residential areas and business centers.

A Waymo spokesperson said the company plans to manually map all regions of Singapore and collect the necessary data to apply for approval from Singapore’s Land Transport Authority for its autonomous driving system in 2027.
