$BTC Justin Sun recently announced that his new “Justin Sun Prize” would begin in earnest, with $1 million being offered for those who can solve 66 mathematical problems and verify their proof. The only problem? Sun hasn’t shown any evidence that there’s $66 million in funding for those who are able to solve the problems. Comparisons to Nobel ring true Sun took to X to announce the competition and immediately compared it to the Nobel Prize, acknowledging that Nobel created the prize after he was labeled “The Merchant of Death” and he became terrified for his legacy. Sun neglected to state why he may feel similarly about his own reputation, but he’s recently been embroiled in a bitter break-up and surrogacy drama with Chinese actress Jing Tian, that has seen Mainlanders resolutely siding with Jing. However, Sun’s woes don’t stop with the hatred that Chinese nationals apparently have for him: he recently brought a lawsuit against the Trump family related to his personal investment in World Financial, and has previously been sued by the SEC. A prize without a prize Alarmingly, while Sun has clearly laid out the rules of the Justin Sun Prize and stated that any winners will receive either USDT or USDC in lieu of US dollars wired to a bank account. He’s also suggested that he can only donate funds to the prize pool, not take any funds out, and says the prize pool address will be available for the public to check. The only problem is that there’s no publicly available address showing any funds for possible solvers of the 66 unsolved math problems. The prize effectively has no prize. Chain and Product Moves ZetaChain → Solana Proposal 68 passed with 99.4% yes, 58% turnout (40% quorum). It authorizes winding down ZetaChain’s own Cosmos-style L1 and making Solana the home of ZETA plus Anuma, the project’s private AI app (300k users). ZETA is supposed to become a native SPL token, 1:1, same ticker and supply. Vesting stays on the old calendar. Native ZETA’s 18 decimals become 9 on Solana (dust rounds down). ZETA already on Ethereum and BNB Chain is out of scope. This vote does not shut the chain yet. A second proposal still has to set the snapshot height, claim process, exchange conversion window, and halt block and the team says that wait is gated on exchange confirmation. Circle Arc + x402 payments Arc mainnet went live mid-September as Circle’s institutional L1: USDC is gas, validators include BlackRock, Visa, Mastercard, ICE, DTCC and others. The newer piece is Circle’s x402 Facilitator Service: sellers/APIs/agents can take USDC per request without running a relayer or funding a gas wallet. Circle verifies the buyer’s EIP-3009 authorization and submits settlement on Arc, Base, and Polygon PoS. $GRVT Linera, a16z-backed Layer 1 blockchain project founded by former Meta researcher Mathieu Baudet, has announced it is ceasing operations immediately. The team communicated the shutdown via Discord, not a press release, not a formal investor notice, just a message in a community server. It stated that insufficient funding had made continued operations impossible. Significantly, the project raised approximately $12 million across two rounds in 2022 and 2023, with a16z participating in both. Other notable backers included Borderless Capital, GSR, Matrixport Ventures, and Flow Traders. Despite that backing, Linera’s most recent attempt to raise through a community token sale on the Sonar platform fell short. Furthermore, the round attracted nearly $900,000 in commitments, specifically 848,300 USDC, but missed the 1.5 million USDC minimum threshold required to proceed. Moreover, all contributions have been fully refunded. The emergency funding efforts followed but ultimately failed. With no path to mainnet and no runway left, the team made the call to wind down. A more considered shutdown would typically involve advance notice to the community, a clear timeline for data preservation, transparent accounting of remaining funds, where possible, and an open-source release of the codebase so the work is not entirely lost. Also, Linera stated the shutdown is unrelated to the technology or the team’s capabilities, but without releasing the code publicly, that distinction means little to the community.
