The number of shards increased, boosting the capacity of the NEAR network by 50%
NEAR has decided to increase the number of shards from the previous 4 to 6, resulting in a 50% increase in network capacity. Stateless verification is expected on the mainline by the end of the second quarter. This upgrade is expected to increase the throughput of each shard by five times and increase the total number of available shards on the network. This move is a strategic initiative aimed at improving overall network performance and efficiency.
