Odaily Planet Daily News: U.S. President Trump stated that Bessent is a candidate to succeed as Federal Reserve Chair, but he is satisfied with Bessent’s current performance as Treasury Secretary.
On July 15 local time, Trump said that Bessent is an option to replace Powell as Federal Reserve Chair, but implied he is not the frontrunner because he has been “very successful” in his role as Treasury Secretary. When directly asked whether Bessent is a potential successor, Trump told reporters, “He is an option, and a very good one.” When pressed on whether Bessent is the best candidate, Trump replied, “Well, he isn’t, because I like the job he’s doing (as Treasury Secretary).” (Xinhua Finance)
