Ethereum Price Poised for Bullish Breakout Amid Strong Fundamentals

Well, it’s been a rough few days for Ethereum. After hitting nearly $4,945 earlier this year—a record, mind you—the price has slipped back. It’s sitting around $4,335 as of this writing. Not exactly a crash, but enough to make some investors a little uneasy.

Still, if you step back and look at the bigger picture, things might not be so bleak. In fact, this could just be the market catching its breath before another leg up.

Is a Bullish Breakout on the Horizon?

Looking at the weekly chart, it’s hard to ignore the overall trend. ETH found a bottom way down around $1,385 back in April. The climb from there to almost five grand was pretty stunning. And recently, it managed to push past a key barrier at $4,100, which had been a sticking point last year.

What’s happening now looks a lot like a classic retest. The price is pulling back to see if that former resistance level around $4,100 will hold as new support. If it does, history suggests we could see a strong move upward. The obvious first target would be a retest of that all-time high near $4,946. Beyond that, the $5,000 mark is waiting, and honestly, it feels almost inevitable.

There’s even chatter among some analysts about a potential overshoot toward $6,250 if the momentum really kicks in. Of course, that’s getting ahead of ourselves. If it falls through $3,750, this whole optimistic outlook starts to look pretty shaky.

More Than Just Charts

But it’s not just lines on a graph. The fundamentals for Ethereum are, I think, surprisingly solid. It’s still the backbone of the decentralized finance world. The total value locked in its ecosystem recently soared past $200 billion. That’s a huge number, and it dwarfs what most other chains are doing.

Then there’s the stablecoin sector. The supply of stablecoins on Ethereum is up 12% this year, sitting at about $157 billion. Transaction numbers are climbing too—up 14% to over 22 million. The volume of those transactions jumped significantly, by 38%. That activity translates directly to more fees and more usage for the network itself.

ETFs and Market Sentiment

And we can’t forget the spot ETFs. Sure, there have been some outflows lately, which might explain some of the price pressure. But overall, they’ve been a huge success. Cumulative inflows have topped $12 billion. BlackRock’s fund alone holds over $16 billion in assets. That’s not nothing.

Even in the derivatives market, things seem healthy. Open interest for futures is sitting above $58 billion, and the funding rate is still positive. That generally means traders are still leaning bullish, expecting higher prices ahead.

So, while the recent dip might be frustrating for some, it might just be part of the process. A necessary pause before the next move.

AirTrunk, a data center operator under Blackstone, has decided to postpone the listing of its $1.5 billion Singapore Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) to the first or second quarter of 2027. Rising U.S. Treasury yields and increased market volatility have made investors more cautious; even raising the yield from 5.5% to around 6% has not boosted demand. High capital costs are becoming a major constraint on the expansion of AI infrastructure.

The Beige Book shows that all 12 Federal Reserve districts reported the impact of rising oil prices.
