USDT Receives Official Status in Abu Dhabi
The USDT stablecoin by Tether obtained official regulated status in the Abu Dhabi Free Economic Zone, allowing licensed participants to conduct operations with the asset.
Tether announced that USDT was granted the official status of Accepted Fiat-Referenced Token (AFRT) by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) of the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM). The regulator’s approval allows licensed institutions to use the token across the Aptos, Celo, Cosmos, Kaia, Near, Polkadot, Tezos, TON, and TRON blockchains within regulated services.
The new status confirms that USDT meets requirements for resilience, transparency, and regulatory oversight. The decision complements earlier FSRA approval issued in 2024 for the use of USDT on Ethereum, Solana, and Avalanche, further expanding the asset’s utility in Abu Dhabi.
According to Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, granting USDT official status in ADGM reaffirms the UAE’s leading role in shaping global standards for digital asset regulation and strengthens the importance of stablecoins in today’s financial system. He also noted that the company expects increased collaboration and new products in the region.
In addition to USDT, the FSRA’s AFRT list includes Ripple’s RLUSD, Circle’s USDC, as well as Paxos’ USDG, USDL, and USDP.
Recently, ADGM’s financial regulator also granted a license to the cryptocurrency exchange Binance, allowing the company to offer trading, clearing, and brokerage services worldwide.
