Sui launches Tidehunter database
Foresight News reports that Sui has launched the Tidehunter database. The core design of Tidehunter focuses on building a write path that fully leverages modern SSD performance while avoiding contention. All write operations pass through an ultra-fast lock-free write-ahead log (WAL), enabling sustained processing of millions of operations per second. Tidehunter uses writable memory-mapped files instead of system calls for each write. Durability is handled asynchronously by background service threads, which are responsible for file growth management and periodic synchronization. In addition, Tidehunter employs a dedicated uniform lookup index designed to reduce read latency on critical paths.
