Due to insufficient nitrogen fertilizer, Australia will reduce wheat planting.
According to Golden Ten Data on March 24, wheat farmers in Australia are reducing their planting areas due to growing concerns over fertilizer supplies. Australia is one of the largest agricultural exporters in the world. This situation indicates that the Iran war is disrupting farming activities around the globe. Wheat is a crop with high nitrogen fertilizer requirements, and fertilizer use is one of the key factors affecting yields. Due to a sharp decrease in exports passing through the Strait of Hormuz, global prices for crop nutrients are rising rapidly, and supplies are becoming increasingly difficult to secure. In addition, low wheat prices and abundant global supply had already discouraged farmers before the conflict erupted. Australia’s winter planting will begin in a few weeks, and farmers are considering reducing wheat acreage while increasing the planting of oilseed and leguminous crops in hopes of obtaining better returns.
