German Consumer Climate: Conflict with Iran Dampens Consumer Confidence
Impact of Iran Conflict on Consumer Confidence
Consumer sentiment has been negatively affected by the ongoing conflict in Iran. The Consumer Climate index for April 2026 has dropped to -28.0 points, marking a decline of 3.2 points from the previous month's revised figure of -24.8. Although this month has not seen major shifts in people's inclination to spend or save, concerns about rising inflation have led to a clear reduction in income expectations.
These findings are based on the latest NIM Consumer Climate report, produced in collaboration between the Nuremberg Institute for Market Decisions (NIM) and GfK since October 2023.
