Capital Economics: The Non-Farm Payrolls Report Is Not As Strong As It Appears

Golden Ten Data reported on April 3 that Stephen Brown from Capital Economics stated that the stronger-than-expected rebound in non-farm employment in March mainly reflected the end of strikes in the healthcare sector and the hiring slowdown in February due to weather factors, rather than a signal of a rapid labor market recovery. He pointed out, "Although rising oil prices may ultimately support employment in the mining industry, the more immediate risk is that reduced consumer purchasing power will dampen demand, thereby impacting hiring in the short term." On the other hand, the information sector declined again, and employment in the financial services industry also fell. This further confirms the trend of artificial intelligence suppressing recruitment in some industries, especially as the professional services sector added only 2,000 jobs, but computer systems design positions decreased by 13,200.
