Canada: Optimism among businesses was on the rise, yet escalating expenses were caused by the conflict in the Middle East
Rising Costs for Businesses Amid Middle East Conflict
According to the Bank of Canada’s most recent quarterly survey, companies are starting to experience increased expenses as a result of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The survey, which gathered responses between February 5 and 25—prior to the U.S. and Israel’s strikes on Iran—revealed that many businesses were optimistic about sales growth and planned investments for the first quarter of the year.
However, during follow-up conversations in March, a significant number of firms indicated that they were already encountering higher costs due to price hikes associated with the war. Others anticipated that these expenses would rise further in the near future as suppliers pass on additional costs.
