Iran Seizes Two Vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, Escalating Middle East Tensions and Driving Up Oil Prices

BlockBeats News, April 22, the Iranian Navy seized two container ships in the key shipping lane of the Strait of Hormuz, citing a violation of maritime regulations, and has transferred the vessels to the Iranian coast. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran was involved in the operation. Meanwhile, the UK Maritime Trade Operations had previously warned of ship attacks in the area.

The incident occurred at a sensitive time in US-Iran relations. Earlier, Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire window to facilitate negotiations, but subsequent reports indicated that a new round of talks had been postponed, with signals from Iran suggesting they may not participate in further discussions.

Due to escalating geopolitical risks, international oil prices reacted swiftly, with Brent crude briefly surpassing $100 per barrel. Analysts pointed out that as a transit route for about 20% of global energy, any disturbance in the Strait of Hormuz could have a cascading impact on the global energy market.

Currently, the US military, with the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group at its core, has deployed the carrier group in the relevant waters, keeping the Middle East situation on the edge of high tension.
