Golden Ten Data reported on April 24 that Steve Englander, Head of Global G10 FX Research and North America Macro Strategy at Standard Chartered Bank's New York branch, stated: “The market is not 100% convinced that the ceasefire will hold, but neither is it 100% convinced that it will break down. It is very difficult for the market to judge how long the ceasefire can last and how the subsequent situation will develop. Therefore, at the moment, the market is essentially treading water. The real focus for the market is whether military operations will resume.” Under this uncertainty, the US dollar has attracted safe-haven demand. As concerns over the conflict intensified, the dollar strengthened in March, but as optimism about a potential resolution grew, the dollar gave back some of its gains this month. “For now, it looks like the path of least resistance is still to moderately increase dollar positions, that is, to gradually remove the ‘peace premium’ that had previously flowed back into the market,” said Jeremy Stretch, Head of G10 FX Strategy at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce Capital Markets.
