1. The Iraqi cabinet, representing the second largest oil producer in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), has issued a statement approving an investment of $1.5 billion this year to construct new multi-directional crude oil export pipelines. This move aims to ensure flexible crude oil transportation to the ports of Ceyhan, Baniyas, and Aqaba. The total estimated cost of the project is $5 billion.2. The pipeline will start in the southern Basra province and extend to the western Haditha region. Once completed, the pipeline will provide greater flexibility for crude supply allocation to central and northern refineries, thereby boosting overall production capacity. This initiative marks a significant effort by Iraq to expand alternative export routes amid ongoing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.3. Previously, Iraq's crude exports suffered severely due to blockades in the strait, forcing the country to significantly cut production. The purpose of this pipeline project is to enhance export flexibility and reduce reliance on the Strait of Hormuz.
