(1) Germany's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for May fell from April's nearly six-year high of 6.4% to 6.3%, slightly better than market expectations. However, the Federal Employment Agency attributed this decline to one-off effects. (2) The number of unemployed dropped by 12,000 to 2.987 million, in contrast to market forecasts of an increase of 10,000. The unadjusted number of unemployed fell to 2.95 million, breaking below the 3 million mark, mainly due to a rebound following weak data in April. (3) The agency's director stated: "Despite the decrease, this spring's recovery has not truly gained momentum." It is expected that the unemployment rate will rise in the coming months, as companies are postponing staff adjustments to cope with geopolitical shocks, including the Iran conflict.
