- Competition grows with Coinbase going into perpetual futures.
Kalshi has taken a new step in expanding its cryptocurrency offering by applying for listing of perpetual futures contracts linked to assets such as XRP, SOL, ETH, and DOGE. The filings were released by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on Monday, indicating certification of the products in early June.
The documents show that the KalshiEX unit formalized additional contracts linked to other relevant cryptocurrencies, such as XLM, SUI, SHIB, LTC, LINK, HBAR, DOT, and BCH. All were classified as derivative financial instruments, reinforcing the company's strategy of expanding its presence beyond Bitcoin.
The move comes just days after the platform received the green light for perpetual BTC futures contracts. This type of derivative, which does not have a fixed expiration date, is already widely used in the cryptocurrency market, especially on offshore exchanges. Now, Kalshi's proposal seeks to bring this model to a regulated environment in the United States.
The initiative suggests an acceleration in the company's positioning within the derivatives segment. If the new products are indeed launched, investors will have access to exposure to major altcoins through a structure overseen by the CFTC, something still limited in the US market.
This advancement also increases direct competition with other platforms. Coinbase, for example, has been focusing its efforts on developing similar offerings within the regulated US environment. This move indicates a gradual shift in market structure, with greater interest in internalizing operations that previously took place primarily outside the country.
With the expansion of its portfolio, Kalshi signals a clear bet on the demand for more diversified and regulated products. The listing of multiple cryptocurrencies in perpetual futures contracts could mark a new phase in the integration between the traditional market and the crypto sector, especially in the United States.
