Ripple has officially launched its dollar-backed stablecoin, RLUSD, on the XRPL EVM Sidechain. With this key step, the company aims to expand RLUSD across more blockchain networks, while also establishing a direct connection between the XRP Ledger and EVM-compatible tools.

RLUSD goes live on the new sidechain

The XRPL EVM Sidechain now supports RLUSD, allowing Ripple’s stablecoin to be used on a network that is integrated with the XRP Ledger and compatible with Ethereum-based applications. Ripple described this rollout as part of RLUSD’s broader multi-chain expansion strategy, aimed at reaching more users and developers.

RippleX emphasized in a statement that the XRPL EVM Sidechain is now live with RLUSD, highlighting that the new structure preserves compatibility with current EVM developer tools and maintains a close link to the XRP Ledger.

This setup offers developers the flexibility to use familiar Ethereum tooling while remaining connected to the XRPL ecosystem. RLUSD is expected to be used within smart contract networks for transactions, lending, payments, and settlements.

Mini glossary: The XRPL EVM Sidechain is a sidechain that works alongside the XRP Ledger, supporting Ethereum Virtual Machine compatible smart contracts. NTT is a standard developed by Wormhole that enables tokens to be transferred natively across supported networks.

Ripple is a US-based technology firm known for building cross-border payment infrastructures and enterprise blockchain solutions. The company’s RLUSD move comes at a time when demand for stablecoins in decentralized finance is on the rise.

Decentralized finance utility broadens for XRP

Adding RLUSD to this network paves the way for more versatile uses for XRP within stablecoin-based applications. Based on disclosed information, XRP may now serve key functions in liquidity provision, swaps, collateral management, payments, and settlements.

The model grants users access to both a dollar-backed asset and XRP within smart contract applications. For developers, this opens up a broader range of options when designing payment or trading-focused solutions.

Following RLUSD’s debut, Ripple stated that this integration aims to expand the smart contract utility of XRP Ledger-connected assets.

Wormhole NTT enables multi-chain RLUSD transfers

The multi-chain expansion of RLUSD leverages Wormhole’s Native Token Transfers (NTT) standard, which allows tokens to move natively between supported networks. Unlike traditional wrapped token models, this method is designed to create more seamless transfers while retaining the token’s core properties across different blockchains.

According to Ripple, adopting Wormhole NTT enables RLUSD to reach new environments without being limited to a single network. This could also bolster the role of regulated stablecoins in blockchain finance overall.

With the activation of the XRPL EVM Sidechain, RLUSD has gained a new gateway to smart contract ecosystems. This development marks one of the latest steps in Ripple’s efforts to interlink stablecoin payments, XRP liquidity, and multi-chain DeFi accessibility.
