Pundit to XRP Holders: This News from Abu Dhabi Changes Everything

Crypto supporters are once again pointing to the Middle East as a region where digital asset adoption could accelerate.

Claims that Abu Dhabi Airports may eventually accept XRP payments have fueled optimism within the XRP community, with some viewing the development as evidence that cryptocurrencies are steadily moving into everyday commercial use.

Although official details surrounding the initiative remain more limited than some social media narratives suggest, the prospect of digital asset payments at one of the region’s busiest travel hubs has generated considerable interest.

Crypto pundit John Squire added to that optimism by tweeting, “THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING Abu Dhabi Airports are preparing to accept payments with XRP. Over 29 MILLION passengers move through Abu Dhabi airports every year. This is how mass adoption starts. XRP is becoming impossible to ignore.”

🚨 THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING 🚨

🇦🇪 Abu Dhabi Airports are preparing to accept payments with $XRP.

Over 29 MILLION passengers move through Abu Dhabi airports every year.

This is how mass adoption starts.

XRP is becoming impossible to ignore.💥🚀

— John Squire 🇺🇸 (@TheCryptoSquire) June 15, 2026

The remarks resonated with many XRP supporters because of the scale involved. Abu Dhabi Airports handled more than 29 million passengers in 2024, meaning that any successful digital payment initiative at the airport operator would expose millions of travelers to cryptocurrency-based transactions.

Squire presented the reported development as a major milestone for XRP, suggesting that its presence in a high-traffic transportation hub could signal broader acceptance of the digital asset in everyday settings.

Official Details Paint a More Nuanced Picture

While enthusiasm surrounding the claims has been evident, the confirmed details behind the initiative provide additional context.

Abu Dhabi Airports has officially partnered with Al Hail Holding and fintech firm Xare to explore regulated crypto payment solutions at Zayed International Airport. The collaboration aims to introduce a digital tourist wallet and pilot next-generation payment technologies designed to improve convenience for travelers. The initiative remains in its testing and pilot phase, with operational planning underway across airport merchants.

However, neither Abu Dhabi Airports nor its partners have officially confirmed XRP as a designated currency in the pilot program. Publicly available information has identified Bitcoin and stablecoin-based solutions as among the digital assets being explored. At the same time, claims about XRP’s inclusion have largely circulated on social media rather than through official announcements.

Community Members Offer Different Perspectives

The post also prompted tons of reactions from commenters.

Sanjay Kumar Tiwari questioned the assumptions behind the adoption narrative, writing, “So you believe all 29m people will have XRP…and will use XRP for payment. Funny theory.”

Others focused on the broader implications of introducing digital asset payments at a major airport. Ruth noted that “The combination of 29 million passengers and payment scenarios certainly offers significant potential.”

Evelyn took a more optimistic view, affirming an increasing number of countries using XRP for payments and predicting that the token could eventually become a leading option for global transactions.

Although uncertainty remains over whether XRP itself will feature in Abu Dhabi’s airport payment pilot, Squire’s comments reflect the growing interest surrounding potential real-world applications for digital assets and the eagerness among XRP community members to identify signs of wider adoption.
