The cryptocurrency market is closely watching the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting this Wednesday, June 17th. The meeting marks the first monetary policy decision led by Kevin Warsh as chairman of the Federal Reserve, an event that analysts consider crucial for the direction of risk assets in the coming months.

Although the prevailing expectation is for interest rates to remain unchanged, investors and managers are focused on factors beyond the main decision. The focus is on updated economic projections, especially the so-called dot plot, as well as Warsh's statements during his first press conference as head of the US central bank.

Bitget CEO Gracy Chen highlighted that the current market demands a broader understanding of the global economy. According to her, the relationship between Bitcoin and other financial assets has become closer, leading investors to observe the same macroeconomic indicators used in traditional markets.

“The old idea that cryptocurrencies only trade based on industry-native narratives is outdated,” she wrote on X. “Today, Bitcoin, US stocks, gold, the forex market, and commodities are all reacting to the same macro question: where is the liquidity going?”

In this context, a more rigid stance from the Federal Reserve could support the strength of the dollar and increase pressure on risk assets. Conversely, more moderate communication could favor a recovery in both stock markets and cryptocurrencies. Even so, some in the market believe that any sign of monetary easing would face challenges given the persistence of inflation in the United States.

Recent data also helps explain investor caution. A survey released by Charlie Bilello showed that Bitcoin and gold are among the top underperforming assets in 2026. While the largest cryptocurrency on the market has accumulated a 27% drop this year, the S&P 500 has appreciated by 9%, and small-cap stocks have advanced by 19%.

Opinions on the meeting remain divided. An analysis by XWIN Research indicated that Warsh may prioritize reducing the Federal Reserve's balance sheet, maintaining quantitative tightening as the primary tool. If this happens, available liquidity in the markets could decrease, putting pressure on investments considered more sensitive to monetary conditions.

On the other hand, investor Ran Neuner stated he was "extremely optimistic" about the meeting. In his assessment, any indication that the Fed does not intend to raise interest rates could benefit risk assets, especially if inflation expectations continue to decline in parallel with the fall in oil prices.

At the time of the meeting, Bitcoin was trading near $65.000, down approximately 2% from the previous day. Despite the decline, the cryptocurrency still maintained an appreciation of nearly 6% over the last seven days, highlighting investor anticipation ahead of one of the most awaited macroeconomic decisions of the year.
