Analysts say that if investors continue to increase their bets on Federal Reserve interest rate hikes, physically-backed gold exchange-traded funds (ETFs) could face a new round of capital outflows, a factor that may drive gold prices—which are already on a downward trend—even lower. Carsten Menke, an analyst at Julius Baer, stated: "ETF fund flows are closely tied to U.S. monetary policy, and this is directly reflected in the buy and sell behaviors of physically-backed products."
