The new logic behind altcoin pumps: Standard Chartered calls the move, and the market follows

BlockBeats news: Since June, two research reports by Standard Chartered have triggered brief FOMO for altcoins UNI and AAVE.

On the 16th, Standard Chartered’s research report covered Uniswap for the first time, predicting that its UNI token could surge 40 times from the current price of about $2.70 to $100 by the end of 2030. Influenced by this, UNI rose over 20% in a single day. Although the price later pulled back, it still remains about 10% up from the price at the time of the report’s release.

A week later, Standard Chartered again called out another DeFi token, AAVE. Its Head of Digital Asset Research, Geoff Kendrick, predicted that AAVE could reach $3,500 by the end of 2030, an increase of roughly 50 times from the current level of about $70. Since the announcement, AAVE has seen a maximum gain of over 10%.

BlockBeats believes that “Standard Chartered’s calls and the market’s response” signal that the altcoin cycle may be entering a new phase of “institutional narrative-driven speculation.” Similar reports from institutions like Standard Chartered may become key catalysts for the DeFi sector in the future. Short-term price pumps are essentially driven by narrative-led capital inflows, rather than immediate improvements in fundamentals. True long-term winners will still depend on actual protocol revenue and value capture ability.
