Thailand Issues Arrest Warrant for Chinese Businessman Wang Yicheng, Accusing Him of Money Laundering Through Illegal Cryptocurrency Mining
BlockBeats News, June 28th, the Thai Department of Special Investigation (DSI) recently issued an arrest warrant for Chinese businessman Wang Yicheng, accusing him of being part of a criminal organization. The organization is suspected of using illegal cryptocurrency mining to launder money obtained from fraud and online gambling.
Wang Yicheng, a former leader of the Thai-Chinese Trade Association, has been identified as a key figure in the implicated Chinese investor group. Previously, a 2023 Reuters investigation focused on him, revealing that a U.S. blockchain analytics company had identified cryptocurrency wallets linked to fraudulent activities that had transferred millions of dollars to accounts under Wang Yicheng's name. During the same period, he was actively cultivating relationships with Thailand's political and law enforcement elite.
A spokesperson for the Thai Department of Special Investigation stated that Wang Yicheng was charged with theft and violation of the Computer Crimes Act in November last year and is believed to have fled Thailand. Authorities are now working with international partners to locate him. Additionally, Thai authorities have simultaneously issued arrest warrants for 4 unnamed Chinese individuals and 4 Burmese individuals.
