Samsung Electro-Mechanics secures AI server capacitor contract worth 454 billion KRW from US client

Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced on Tuesday that it has signed a contract worth 454 billion KRW (approximately $293 million) with a U.S. client to supply multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCC) for its artificial intelligence (AI) servers.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics stated that the contract is valid from January 2027 to December 2027.
The company did not disclose the identity of the client due to a confidentiality agreement. However, industry insiders believe that the client is a major U.S. cloud service provider (CSP).
As leading cloud service providers including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google, and Meta accelerate investments in artificial intelligence data centers, demand for multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCC) used in AI servers is increasing rapidly.
MLCC is a key electronic component that regulates and stabilizes circuit current, and is widely used in smartphones, personal computers, automotive electronics, and artificial intelligence servers.
MLCCs designed specifically for AI servers require more advanced manufacturing technology than those used in mobile devices.
Industry insiders indicated that such a large-scale supply contract is rare in the MLCC market, reflecting the tightening supply and strong demand for artificial intelligence server components.
