Northern Star appoints new CEO and Chairman to address pressure from activist investors

Glonghui, July 2｜Australia's largest gold miner, Northern Star Resources, announced the appointment of former Glencore executive Suresh Vadnagra as the next Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Stuart Tonkin. He will officially assume the role on October 5. This move comes at a time when activist investors are pressuring the company, demanding a comprehensive overhaul of its management. In a separate statement, the company announced that Michael Ashforth will succeed Michael Chaney as Chairman following the annual shareholders' meeting in November. Last month, Elliott Investment Management disclosed that it holds more than AUD 1 billion (approximately USD 689 million) worth of shares in Northern Star and publicly called for a full-scale reform of the board of directors to enhance shareholder value. Elliott pointed out that Northern Star’s share price has underperformed for a long time and demanded the company implement sweeping reforms to improve returns.
