The vegetable oil index rose by 3.8% this month, reaching a new high for the year, driven by both palm oil and rapeseed oil.
- In June, the FAO's Vegetable Oil Price Index averaged 192.0 points, marking a 3.8% increase month-on-month and a 23.3% surge year-on-year. Stronger quotations for palm oil and rapeseed oil were the main drivers pushing the index higher, while stable sunflower oil prices offset the drag caused by falling soybean oil prices.
- International palm oil prices rebounded sharply in June following a brief dip in May. Domestic demand for biofuel feedstock in Indonesia remained high, coupled with declining yields that may cause reduced production. The market’s rising anticipation of tighter export supply served as a core catalyst for the price recovery.
- Global rapeseed oil prices continued their upward trend. Rigid demand for biofuels, combined with unfavorable weather during the sowing season in Australia and Canada, has amplified market concerns over supply shortfalls, pushing quotations even higher.
- Sunflower oil prices largely remained stable. The existing tight supply pattern for the 2025/26 marketing year, offset by forward expectations of supply recovery in 2026/27, resulted in a balanced price amid short-term market contradictions.
- Soybean oil quotations weakened slightly. Increased seasonal supply from South America and declining crude oil prices squeezed biofuel profit margins, making it the only category in the index to fall. However, this did not undermine the overall strong tone of the vegetable oil market.
