Video | SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won: The demand for memory will continue to increase, and our supply capacity will never catch up
On July 11, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won stated in an interview with Bloomberg that AI is completely transforming the logic of demand in the memory chip industry. In the past, memory demand was mainly limited by population and the number of end-user devices; in the future, however, each person may simultaneously possess dozens or even hundreds of AI agents, which will generate vast amounts of cache and create extremely large memory demand. That is why SK Hynix plans to double its overall production capacity in the next five years. Chey Tae-won believes that memory demand in the AI era will grow exponentially, supply shortages may persist for years, and capacity expansion will still struggle to keep pace with demand.
