  1. According to data from the American Automobile Association, the average diesel price across the United States has once again surpassed $5 per gallon, with gasoline prices also rebounding to nearly $4, essentially returning to the peak seen before the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding was signed in June. This highlights the sustained impact of geopolitical conflicts on end-user energy costs.
  2. A year ago, the average diesel price was only $3.72, about $1.25 lower than the current level. The cost pressures on the logistics and transportation sectors have increased significantly, with truck drivers and industries reliant on road transport bearing the direct impact of rising fuel expenses.
  3. This week, Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and the United States immediately imposed a comprehensive blockade on Iranian ports. Both sides claim to be the true guarantor of safety for this strategic waterway. Coupled with a new round of cross-border air strikes, the international crude oil wholesale market has experienced significant volatility. Brent crude oil prices are currently holding near $81 per barrel. Although this is still below the earlier conflict-driven peaks, the White House’s unpredictable policy signals continue to put pressure on the market.
  4. Trump once briefly declared that the United States would take over the strait and impose a 20% fee on transiting goods, but the plan was quickly shelved due to opposition from multiple parties. Such unpredictable statements have further intensified oil price volatility, and the future trajectory of energy prices will depend on whether the military standoff between the U.S. and Iran escalates and if passage through the strait can be restored.

Deutsche Bank Research stated in its latest report that the era of large-scale policy interventions used to cushion global economic shocks over the past decades is coming to an end.
