US natural gas stabilizes after declines, awaiting signals of hotter weather and Freeport resumption

⑴ After a recent decline, US natural gas futures have stabilized, with moderate climate expectations and soft LNG feedstock flows serving as previous suppressing factors. However, prices have found temporary support around $2.86. ⑵ Institutional analysis indicates that the market is waiting for two catalysts: firstly, the full resumption of operations at the Freeport LNG export terminal, and secondly, the appearance of more high-temperature weather in the southern and western regions next week to boost fuel demand for power generation cooling. ⑶ For the Nymex August contract to rebound to the $3.00 mark, significant support from weather conditions is still needed. That said, the rapid slide toward $2.70 seems to have at least been curbed in the short term. ⑷ From a trading psychology perspective, the natural gas market is currently in a tug-of-war between summer demand expectations and ample inventories. If high-temperature forecasts are realized or there is clarity about the progress of the export terminal’s resumption, short covering could drive a temporary price rebound; otherwise, the effectiveness of lower support levels will continue to be tested.
