Korean stock market margin balances fall to their lowest level since April

Glonghui, July 21 — According to data from the Korea Financial Investment Association, as of July 16, the margin balance used to finance stock purchases had dropped to 33.4 trillion won (approximately $22.6 billion), the lowest level since April 15. This figure represents a 13% decrease from the late June peak of 38.6 trillion won. Other data indicate that Korean retail investors’ enthusiasm for stocks may be waning. According to the Korea Financial Investment Association, as of July 16, investor deposits fell to 108.1 trillion won, down from the June 4 high of 139.7 trillion won.
