US Stocks Movement | Summit Therapeutics drops 6% premarket, with a massive $216 million Q2 loss and critical shortage of operating funds
- Gelonghui July 24 | Summit Therapeutics (SMMT.US) fell 6% in pre-market trading after the company announced its second-quarter financial results and disclosed that it does not have sufficient operating capital to support planned operations for the next twelve months. The company reported a net loss of $215.7 million in Q2 2026, with a loss per share of $0.28. Although the loss narrowed compared to $565.7 million in the same period last year, this was mainly due to a high equity incentive expense of $410.1 million last year, not an improvement in core operations. The company clearly stated that losses are expected to continue. As of June 30, Summit Therapeutics had $690.7 million in cash and short-term investments, but admitted that existing operating funds are insufficient to support planned operations over the next twelve months.
