State Street acquires Santander CACEIS Latam securities services unit managing $470B in assets
State Street Corporation just signed an initial agreement to acquire the Santander CACEIS Latam Securities Services business, a joint venture that manages roughly $470 billion in assets under custody and $225 billion in assets under administration. The deal covers operations across Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia, three markets that have become increasingly important for both traditional and digital asset infrastructure.
The acquisition, announced on July 28, won’t close until 2027, pending regulatory approvals and employee consultations. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The consolidation play
This deal fits neatly into a broader trend that’s been reshaping the asset servicing industry: consolidation at scale. Institutional investors increasingly want a single provider that can handle custody, fund administration, foreign exchange, and middle- and back-office services across multiple markets.
State Street CEO Ron O’Hanley emphasized the importance of combining global capabilities with local market knowledge. Joerg Ambrosius, who oversees the firm’s international operations, pointed to the value of pairing State Street’s global platform with the joint venture’s deep understanding of Latin American markets.
Goldman Sachs and law firm Freshfields are advising State Street on the transaction. The sellers, Santander Group and CACEIS, are parting with a business that serves institutional investors across three countries.
