CGI reported higher third-quarter profit and revenue, as strong demand from the government sector helped push the company's contracted backlog higher.
For the three months ended June 30, the Montreal-based IT and business consulting services company on Wednesday posted a higher net income of 465.2 million Canadian dollars ($329.7 million), or C$2.23 a share, up from C$408.6 million, or C$1.82 a share, in the comparable quarter a year ago.
Adjusted earnings were C$2.29 a share. According to FactSet, analysts were expecting C$2.28 a share.
Revenue rose to C$4.19 billion from C$4.09 billion, which was a 2.5% growth over the prior year, and just above analyst forecasts of a rise to C$4.18 billion. On a constant currency basis, revenue grew by 1.3%.
Bookings at the end of the quarter were of C$4.20 billion.
Chief Executive Tim Hurlebaus pointed to strong government wins, noting that new orders comfortably outpaced filled orders over the past year--up 7% from the year before.
CGI's backlog was of C$31.79 billion or 1.9-times its annual revenue.
