1. During Thursday's Asian trading session, the US Dollar Index stabilized and rebounded by about 0.1%, currently trading near 100.90. Previously, the Federal Reserve announced it would keep interest rates unchanged, but internal disagreements intensified. Additionally, the US launched a new round of airstrikes against Iran, with both geopolitical risks and monetary policy uncertainty jointly supporting the dollar.2. The Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged at 3.50%-3.75%, but three regional Federal Reserve presidents voted against, advocating for a rate hike. Chair Walsh reiterated his determination to fight inflation but did not clarify the path of future actions, leaving the market speculating about the direction of policy. IG analysts pointed out that if the Federal Reserve is unwilling to commit to further tightening, it may shake the credibility of its anchoring long-term inflation expectations.3. Regarding interest rate expectations, federal funds futures show the market expects a 42.6% probability of keeping rates unchanged in September, up from 24% before the decision.4. Standard Chartered Bank analysts said the market may react negatively because it believes "the Federal Reserve should have acted but did not," and also expressed concerns about Walsh's ambiguous communication.

Deutsche Bank: After the three major central banks hiked rates simultaneously, the market may once again underestimate the terminal interest rate

Deutsche Bank points out that as central banks in the US, Europe, and Japan are tightening policy simultaneously, the market may still be underpricing the eventual terminal rates. With oil prices remaining high, inflation may spill over into core inflation and wages. Moreover, financial conditions have not tightened in tandem, which could weaken the effect of rate hikes. Citing the experience of 2022, Deutsche Bank notes that the market then expected a total of around 200 basis points of Fed rate hikes in the first year, but the final figure exceeded 400 basis points, illustrating that the market often underestimates the terminal rate.
