Further Yen Interventions Possible in Near Term -- Market Talk
Dow Jones2026/07/31 07:510751 GMT - Japanese authorities could carry out further interventions to support the yen in the coming days after suspected action on Thursday, ING's Chris Turner says in a note. "We could well see some more Japanese FX intervention today and early next week, since intervention typically comes in blocks of a few days." However, any interventions will only slow rather than reverse the yen's underlying downward trend against the dollar until there are clearer signals the Federal Reserve will avoid raising interest rates in September and the dollar turns much lower, he says. The dollar rises 0.7% to 160.57 yen, having reached an 11-week low of 157.96 Thursday. (renae.dyer@wsj.com)
