- The yield on the UK 10-year government bond held steady near 4.95% on Friday, higher than Tuesday's three-week low of 4.891%, as rising oil prices rekindled market concerns that the central bank may need to maintain high interest rates.
- Brent crude rose for a second consecutive day, driven by supply concerns, after Iran announced a draft plan to impose restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz. Although Iran and Oman have reportedly reached an agreement to establish a transit corridor, no official agreement has been announced yet, keeping investors cautious.
- Despite a modest recent rebound in yields, the UK 10-year government bond yield still ended the week down roughly 9 basis points, supported by hopes that the reopening of the Strait may eventually ease both oil prices and inflation expectations.
- The Bank of England kept interest rates unchanged in July, with Governor Bailey stating that despite ongoing external risks, the process of disinflation remains on track.
