Roughly 233,000 Bitcoin worth about $15 billion moved to new wallets after a $130 million exploit targeted Coldcard devices, according to Casa CEO Nick Neuman.

The transfer unfolded as attackers drained vulnerable wallets one address at a time, prompting users to move funds in search of safety. The episode became one of the most serious hardware-wallet security incidents in Bitcoin’s recent history.

Neuman said the response demonstrates the resilience of distributed self-custody rather than exposing it as a systemic weakness. Users retained the ability to react independently and relocate their assets without relying on a centralized custodian.

The incident also highlights the importance of secure wallet configurations, timely software updates, and recovery plans for holders managing their own Bitcoin.
