- According to Eurostat data, in 2025 the EU's inflation-adjusted industrial output is expected to grow by approximately 3% compared to the previous year. This marks the first annual positive growth since 2022, following declines of around 1.5% and nearly 2% in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
- In terms of nominal value, EU industrial output will rise from about €5.87 trillion in 2024 to €6.09 trillion in 2025. The simultaneous improvement in volume and price reflects a revival in industrial activity and the effects of price transmission.
- Looking at key manufacturing sectors, the food industry stands out, with real output growing by about 4% year-on-year and a cumulative increase of over 11% compared to 2015, leading all industries. Machinery and equipment take second place, rising about 3%, while the automobile, trailer, and semi-trailer sector sees a marginal increase of nearly 1%.
- Chemicals and chemical products, as well as fabricated metal products (excluding machinery and equipment), are the only two sectors to decline year-on-year, with drops of around 1.4%. These industries have also shown a shrinking trend over the past decade.
- Overall, after two years of contraction, the EU's industry is returning to an expansionary phase, although sectoral divergence is pronounced. Consumer-related industries are recovering stronger than intermediate goods and raw material sectors. Going forward, attention must be paid to the sustained impact of order momentum and energy costs on production resilience.
