US Dollar Rises Early Wednesday Ahead of GDP, Personal Income, Durable Goods

07:20 AM EDT, 08/26/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US dollar rose against its major trading partners early Wednesday, except for a decline versus the yen, to begin another busy day of data releases, starting with the second estimate of Q2 GDP and July data on personal income, spending, prices, and new orders for durable goods. Weekly crude oil stocks data are due to be released at 10:30 am ET, followed by an update to the Atlanta Federal Reserve's GDP nowcast estimate for Q3 around midday and an appearance by Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin at 11:45 am ET. Earlier Wednesday, the Mortgage Bankers Association reported that mortgage applications declined in the week ended Aug. 21 due to a slight uptick in average 30-year mortgage rates. A quick summary of foreign exchange activity heading into Wednesday: EUR/USD fell to 1.1662 from 1.1678 at the Tuesday US close and 1.1663 at the same time Tuesday morning. There are no Eurozone data on Wednesday's schedule. The next European Central Bank meeting is scheduled for Sept. 10. GBP/USD fell to 1.3623 from 1.3653 at the Tuesday US close and 1.3630 at the same time Tuesday morning. UK service sector conditions declined in April, according to data released earlier Wednesday. The next Bank of England meeting is scheduled for Sept. 17. USD/JPY fell to 159.1002 from 159.1472 at the Tuesday US close and 159.3114 at the same time Tuesday morning. There were no Japanese data released overnight. The next Bank of Japan meeting is scheduled for Sept. 17-18. USD/CAD rose to 1.3870 from 1.3832 at the Tuesday US close and 1.3857 at the same time Tuesday morning. There are no Canadian data on Wednesday's schedule. The next Bank of Canada meeting is scheduled for Sept. 2.
