South Africa's Producer Price Index rose by 5.7% year-on-year in July, slowing for the second consecutive month

⑴ In July, South Africa's producer price index (PPI) annual increase slowed to 5.7% from 7.5% in June, below the market expectation of 6.1%, marking the second consecutive month of deceleration. Price growth for coal and petroleum products fell from 38.8% to 24.4%, with a significant narrowing in the rise of diesel and gasoline fuel costs, affected by the decline in global crude oil prices. ⑵ On a month-on-month basis, the PPI dropped by 1.0% in July, compared with a previous decrease of 0.1%.
