Zakura, a software development team focused on the Zcash ecosystem, has released Zakura Common, a new open-source cryptographic library designed to significantly accelerate private transaction generation on the Zcash blockchain.

Major speed boost for privacy transactions
Historically, Zcash users conducting shielded transactions faced wait times exceeding three seconds as wallets generated the required cryptographic proofs. With the introduction of Zakura Common, processing time for these private transactions has been slashed to less than 200 milliseconds under optimal conditions.
The primary advantage is seen on mobile devices, where proof generation is now more than 14 times faster. Desktop environments also benefit, registering a fivefold performance improvement. The library brings further gains to the core elements of Zcash’s privacy protocols, including a 21x speedup for Sinsemilla hashing—integral to the Orchard protocol—and a 4 to 8x increase in zk-SNARK proof verification speeds compared to legacy implementations.
Zcash is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency enabling shielded transactions, which obscure the sender, recipient, and transaction amount. Shielded transactions rely on complex cryptographic proofs to ensure privacy while maintaining blockchain integrity.

Wallet implementation and protocol independence
Wallet developers can immediately integrate Zakura Common without the need for a network upgrade or hard fork. This independence from protocol changes allows for faster adoption across Zcash ecosystem applications.
The update is already available in Zakura version 1.3.0, and Vizor Wallet has emerged as one of the earliest external wallets to adopt the new library. End users should experience not only faster transaction creation but also improved synchronization and quicker node operations.
Sean Bowe, Zakura’s lead developer and a widely recognized expert in zero-knowledge cryptography, highlighted these improvements on social media, noting that both clients and validators stand to benefit from the enhanced stack. Bowe previously played a key role in Zcash’s privacy mechanism development before mainnet launch.
Additionally, Zakura developers confirmed that the toolkit supports the proposed 25-second block interval for Zcash’s next network upgrade, NU7.
Market reaction and road ahead
After the announcement, ZEC, the native token of the Zcash network, climbed nearly 5% to reach $839. However, the price retreated slightly on Monday morning amid a broader market pullback.
ZEC showed a notable breakout following ETF-related news, with some analysts targeting higher price levels due to renewed positive sentiment.

Zakura Common is also a foundational element of Project Tachyon, an ambitious plan to scale Zcash to over 50,000 private transactions per second, aiming to match major payment card networks.
