XRP falls 6% in a week, remains up 35% in 14 days after recent rally

Ripple‘s XRP token experienced a significant upswing toward the end of last month, reaching $1.66 on August 22, 2026. However, the rally reversed course, and the cryptocurrency has since entered a downward phase. Market data indicates that XRP’s price declined by nearly 6% over the past week, even as it maintained gains of more than 35% in 14-day trading and 26.3% over the previous month.

Factors supporting XRP’s recent gains

XRP’s surge in late August followed a broader rally in the cryptocurrency market, led by Bitcoin (BTC). Bitcoin regained the $80,000 level after months of subdued performance, which appeared to bolster sentiment among digital asset investors.

A key development that fueled market enthusiasm came from President Donald Trump, who hosted a cryptocurrency-focused event at the White House. During this event, Trump announced intentions for the United States to purchase a substantial amount of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, a move that sparked renewed optimism among traders and contributed to the positive price momentum across the market.

Investor confidence increased after President Trump revealed that the US government plans to buy significant quantities of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies during a White House crypto event.

In addition to the White House announcement, the US Treasury’s decision to boost bond buybacks injected extra liquidity into financial markets. Some of this liquidity found its way into cryptocurrencies, helping assets like XRP sustain bullish momentum.

Outlook grows uncertain as market momentum fades

Despite these supportive factors, the current rally in XRP and the broader cryptocurrency market appears to be losing steam. One significant point of concern emerged from Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh, who delivered a hawkish speech at the annual Jackson Hole event. Warsh focused on persistent inflation and suggested that further interest rate hikes could be on the horizon.

An increase in interest rates may prompt a shift of capital from riskier assets like cryptocurrencies into more traditional investment vehicles, potentially pressuring crypto prices further. XRP’s value could drop again if the Federal Reserve moves forward with additional rate hikes.

Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh warned about continuing inflation concerns and indicated the possibility of interest rate increases, raising worries about capital leaving the crypto market.

Further risks for XRP in the short term

Analysts are considering the effects of the US Treasury’s increased liquidity measures winding down. As the liquidity from bond buybacks is eventually withdrawn, financial conditions may tighten once more. XRP could face additional price declines when this process occurs.

If both higher interest rates and reduced liquidity materialize in the coming weeks, XRP might fall below the $1 mark again. The outlook for the digital asset remains sensitive to macroeconomic signals and policy decisions in the near term.

Ford Publicly Hits Back at US Secretary of Transportation, US Auto Industry "Fighting to Preserve Electric Vehicles"

The U.S. Secretary of Transportation is pressuring to cut off cooperation with Chinese companies such as CATL. Ford criticized Secretary Buttigieg for "overstepping" and being "factually incorrect," citing positive statements from the White House and the Department of Commerce as evidence that Buttigieg does not represent the official government position. The core conflict lies in the fact that U.S. carmakers' transition to electrification is highly dependent on Chinese battery technology. Severing cooperation would force them back into the shrinking fuel vehicle market, putting the policy goals of manufacturing reshoring and electrification upgrades in a dilemma.

They boosted the Yen but failed to hold U.S. Treasury bonds! Is Basent a "weak teammate" for U.S. stocks?

This week, Besant made high-profile calls to suppress yen short positions and raised the US Treasury repo limit to $6 billion. As a result, the yen strengthened, but US Treasuries declined—10-year yields hit their highest level since October 2023, and 30-year yields approached a twenty-year peak. Analysts noted that the combination of a stronger yen and rising US Treasury yields is simultaneously impacting carry trades and stock valuations, posing a dual threat to the US stock market bull run. This is described as "the greatest risk facing the bull market."
