According to The Wall Street Journal, Ford has set a goal to surpass 100,000 units sold in the first year of production for its new Fathom electric pickup truck. The starting price for the Ford Fathom is about $30,000, and it is scheduled to launch next year, to be manufactured on a brand-new assembly line in Louisville, Kentucky. This aggressive sales target has so far only been achieved by Tesla in the U.S. market. Wall Street analysts and some Ford dealers are questioning whether the Fathom will be well received. U.S. electric vehicle sales have declined following the gradual phaseout of the $7,500 federal tax credit. According to industry research firm MotorIntelligence, in August, EVs accounted for 5.7% of all sales in the U.S., down from 10.3% in the same month last year; overall EV sales dropped 48% year-on-year.
