Bitcoin Price Touched $81,309 Before Pulling Back 2.5% as Privacy Tokens Rally
Bitcoin price (BTC-USD) broke through the $81,300 level that capped its late-August runs, reaching an overnight high of $81,309. However, the move above $81,000 proved temporary as selling pressure pulled Bitcoin back down to $79,234.89.
The drop leaves Bitcoin down $2,037.03, or 2.51%, over the past five days. Despite the quick pullback from $81,000, market-wide trading stayed active, recording $318.6 million in total liquidations across major exchanges.
Privacy Tokens Lead the Crypto Market Surge
While Bitcoin pulled back to $79,234.89, privacy-focused tokens posted strong single-day gains. Dash (DASH-USD) led major crypto movers with a 19.24% jump to $50.66, backed by a 20% rise in futures open interest.

Bitcoin’s Futures Data Shows Bullish Bets
Derivatives data shows traders taking long positions despite the Bitcoin price dip from $81,000. The long-short taker volume ratio turned bullish at 51.4% to 48.5%. Total open interest in Bitcoin futures moved up slightly to 709,000 BTC, up from 687,000 BTC in the prior 24-hour period.
Options activity remained focused on upside targets. Volume rankings were dominated by call options, led by the $80,000 call expiring September 25, with heavy buying concentrated between the $85,000 and $95,000 strike prices.
Bitcoin’s Low Volatility Tells Us That Markets Are Pretty Calm
Bitcoin’s 30-day implied volatility index stayed near 40%, down from an August spike of 50%. The lower volatility reading matches conditions in traditional equity markets, where the Cboe Volatility Index sits near 14.
In macroeconomic markets, gold added 0.17% to reach $4,480 per ounce, while silver gained 0.25% to $67.11. The U.S. dollar index held flat near 99.06, providing neutral background conditions for crypto assets.
