French regulators: France may continue to increase renewable energy to curb electricity prices

According to France's energy regulatory agency, France may continue to increase its installed renewable energy capacity in order to curb consumer electricity costs, while ensuring that government policies support electricity demand. The French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) stated that the additional subsidy costs paid by the government to solar and wind projects in the short term will not exceed the benefits consumers gain from lower market electricity prices. CRE noted that since 2020, the promotion of solar and wind power plants has saved French users approximately €8 billion in electricity costs last year, while the total subsidies to renewable energy producers during the same period amounted to €6.2 billion.
